Asteroids
Introduction
Asteroids is a legendary arcade space shooter released by Atari in 1979. This HTML5 version recreates the classic vector graphics experience in your browser. You pilot a triangular spaceship through an asteroid field, shooting and destroying asteroids while avoiding collisions. The game's innovative physics-based movement and wraparound screen made it an instant classic and one of the most influential video games of all time.
Gameplay
Navigate your spaceship through a field of floating asteroids. Your ship can rotate, thrust forward, and fire bullets. When shot, large asteroids break into smaller asteroids, which break into even smaller ones before being completely destroyed. Smaller asteroids are worth more points but are harder to hit. The screen wraps around - if you fly off one edge, you appear on the opposite side. Occasionally, flying saucers appear and shoot at you. Your ship has limited lives, and the game ends when all lives are lost. Clear all asteroids to advance to the next level with more asteroids.
Controls
Press the Left Arrow key to rotate your ship counter-clockwise. Press the Right Arrow key to rotate clockwise. Press the Up Arrow key to thrust forward. Press the Spacebar to fire bullets. On mobile, use on-screen touch controls. Your ship has inertia - it continues moving in the direction of thrust even after you stop pressing the thrust key. Use this to navigate strategically around asteroids.
